Rotating Proliferation

My work has consistently explored the emergence of unidentified life forms that manifest at the intersection of consciousness and the unconscious. This pursuit likely stems from a fundamental inquiry: what drawing methodology can liberate us from the constraints of fixed frameworks? In my art, I seek to transcend the boundaries of predetermined sketches, calculated color palettes, and the compulsion toward structural finality.

As I allow my hand to trace lines spontaneously, they overlap, curve, and drift across the surface. Within the void, a subtle order begins to coalesce. The circular canvas, liberated from the directional constraints of up, down, left, and right, creates an environment where I feel as though my feet have left the ground, defying the very pull of gravity.

I draw while rotating the canvas, an act of continuous reorientation. The moment a recognizable form is suggested, I immediately deviate from it, prying open a path for a new line. This methodology keeps the work in a state of ‘forming’ rather than ‘form’—a perpetual state of becoming that preserves an emergent, struggling vitality.

In this process, I discover a peculiar movement upon the circular canvas, which serves as a metaphorical petri dish. At a certain point, the rhythm of my hand accelerates, bypassing my conscious control as the forms begin to proliferate autonomously. As an enigmatic and unfamiliar vitality begins to stir, I find myself acting as a mediator facilitating their emergence and an observer confronting the raw, living senses of existence.

회전 증식 

나는 의식과 무의식 사이에서 출현하는 미확인 생명성에 관심을 가지며 작업을 해왔다. 고정된 틀에서 벗어나기 위한 그리기 방법은 무엇일까 라는 물음에서 였을 것이다. 나의 그림에서는 사전에 계획된 스케치, 계산된 조색, 완결성을 향한 강박에서 벗어나기를 바랐다. 

손이 가는 대로 선을 긋기 시작하면 선들은 겹치고 구부러지며 떠다닌다. 
텅 빈 공간에 이내 모종의 질서가 생기려 한다. 원형 캔버스는 상하좌우의 방향의 제한에서 자유로워 중력의 영향에서도 벗어난 듯 작업하는 동안 땅에서 발이 떠있는 거 같다. 

회전하듯 캔버스의 방향을 돌리며 선긋기를 한다. 어떤 형상이 연상되면 이내 그곳을 이탈하여 새로운 선을 긋는다. 이 그림은 형상이 채 갖추어 지지 않은 형성의 과정에 머물게 한다. 생명성을 가지려고 애쓰는 모습을 지속한다.

나는 이 과정에서 배양 접시처럼 생긴 원형 캔버스에 모종의 움직임을 발견한다. 어느 순간 손의 움직임이 빨라지며 나의 통제에서 벗어나 증식을 거듭한다. 정체모를 생경한 생명성이 꿈틀대기 시작한다. 나는 이들의 출현을 돕는 매개자이며 살아있는 감각을 마주하는 관찰자가 된다.
