이승현(1974년생)은 이미지가 생성되는 과정 자체를 탐구하는 작가다. 그의 작업은 "그림이 작가를 통해 스스로 생장한다"는 관점에서 출발한다. 작가는 창조자이자 동시에 매개자로서 우연과 필연, 질서와 무질서 사이에서 이미지가 출현하기를 기다린다. 섬세한 선들이 중첩되며 증식하듯 펼쳐지는 그의 드로잉은 형상의 정체를 규정하지 않고 스스로 변화하도록 둔다. 작가는 이미지 생성의 순간—아직 명명되기 전의 찰나—에 집중하며 직관에 몸을 맡기고 우연 속에서 형태가 출현하기를 기다린다. 화면은 끊임없이 생성 중이며 형상이 아닌 과정, 의미가 아닌 흐름을 선택한다. 이미지와 대상 사이의 미묘한 틈을 열어 새로운 표현으로 이미지가 무엇인지 묻는다.

Lee Seung-hyun (b. 1974) is an artist whose practice investigates the very process of image generation.

His work stems from the perspective that "the drawing self-generates through the artist." Serving as both creator and mediator, the artist awaits the image's emergence in the tension between contingency and necessity, order and disorder. His drawings, where delicate lines overlap and proliferate, do not define the form's identity but rather allow it to change autonomously.

The artist concentrates on the moment of creation—the instant before it is named—surrendering to intuition and waiting for forms to appear within contingency. The surface remains in constant flux, selecting process over form and flow over meaning.

Through a new form of expression that opens the subtle gap between the image and its referent, he ultimately questions the nature of the image itself.
